Dance Without Limits

Every dancer. Every ability. Everyone welcome. ❤️

Dance Without Limits is our not-for-profit inclusive dance and performing arts group, established in September 2025 to give children and young people with additional needs and disabilities a place where they can participate, achieve, make friends and simply enjoy performing arts.

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to dance.

Our sessions are designed for young people aged 6+ with a wide range of additional needs. We welcome dancers with physical disabilities and mobility needs, autism and other neurodivergence, learning disabilities and developmental differences, sensory and communication needs, visual or hearing impairments, hidden disabilities and more.

There is no expectation that everybody participates in the same way.

One dancer might perform the whole routine independently, another might dance seated or using a mobility aid. Someone else might need additional demonstrations, sensory breaks, Makaton, adapted movements or simply some extra time to watch and feel comfortable before joining in.

All of those are valid ways to take part.

More than a dance class

Dance Without Limits uses dance, drama, music, games and creative movement to encourage:

  • Confidence and self-esteem
  • Communication and self-expression
  • Coordination, movement and physical development
  • Creativity and imagination
  • Social interaction and friendships
  • Independence and individual achievement
  • Most importantly — FUN!

We celebrate progress in all its forms. For one young person, an achievement might be learning and performing a complete routine. For another, it could be joining a group activity for the first time, making eye contact, communicating a choice or simply feeling comfortable enough to enter the studio.

Those achievements matter to us.

Inclusion without limits

Our commitment to inclusion doesn't stop at the weekly class.

Where appropriate, Dance Without Limits members can be supported to access the wider opportunities available through Gem’s Dance & Performing Arts Academy, including performances, shows, examinations, workshops and competitions.

Our dancers with additional needs have already represented the academy successfully at dance competitions, demonstrating that disability or additional need does not have to mean being excluded from opportunities to perform and achieve.

At the same time, competition and examinations are never a requirement. Success looks different for every dancer, and we want each young person to follow a pathway that is right for them.

A team that understands SEND

Our volunteer team brings together experience from both performing arts and education, including SEND teaching, autism support, visual impairment, Makaton, Intensive Interaction and sensory regulation.

This experience helps us adapt activities around the individual rather than expecting the individual to adapt to the class.

Above all, we aim to provide an environment in which young people and their families feel welcomed, understood and valued.
